about
LoHi Records recording artist Pat Ferguson (Madison, WI), in collaboration with Tim Carbone and Elliott Peck, has announced the release of a new digital single, The Confidence Man, available Friday, January 22, 2021 on all streaming platforms.
At the dawn of this new year, in the wake of the recent events in Washington, D.C., and now as our country works to turn one of the heaviest pages in its history, The Confidence Man embodies an anthem of change; a “goodbye” to the persistent burden of personal, societal, and/or political negativity that has for too long plagued us and impeded prosperity.
An entirely remote, pandemic-era collaboration from their respective home studios, The Confidence Man features gorgeously haunting duet-style harmonies between Ferguson and Peck (Midnight North, Phil Lesh’s Terrapin Family Band), along with Ferguson’s signature finger-style guitar playing and sweeping string arrangements masterfully written and performed by Carbone (Railroad Earth, The High Hawks).
lyrics
"The Confidence Man"
I don't owe you nothin'
But a smile on my face
Even when you fall
Heart splintered with timbers
You'll be gone without a trace
Still you heed my call
And preach that I should follow you
Then wander from the shore
To sidestep this wreckage
You've smothered several more
Don't you feel alone?
There upon your throne?
All high and mighty and strong?
But I don't belong to you, to you
I often dream of you
A smile on your face
Did the cold inside you thaw?
Yet still personified
A callused embrace
One that's worn this soul down raw
You scream the pain's what follows you
But by the hand you lead it o'er
A bleeding heart that guides you
Forever aimless, nothing more
Don't you feel alone?
There upon your throne?
All high and mighty and strong?
But I don't belong
So I'll say goodbye
To all the lies
And tears cried
I'm done with you
And all you do
Goodbye for good
